Tajikistan, Fishing and Agriculture.
Half of the Tajikistan workforce works n agriculture. The principle crop is cotton, this is grown on irrigated lands in the far north and south-east. Wheat is grown in many areas on non-irrigated land. Lots of vegetables, potates, apples and juicey grapes are grown. Strawberries are also grown. Cattle, sheep and goat herds are also raised.

Flora and Fauna
Alpine vegitation dominates the mountain scenery. Wildlife is very varied and it includes the endangered snow leopared and the rare markhor. There are numerous mountain goats, including the Siberian horned goat, are to be seen. Sheep are plentiful and a feature of the mountains.
Cities in Tajikistan
The capital city is Dushanbe. It is a word meaning 'Monday.' Here in the old days several markets where held on this day. In the prsent day there are lots of colourful daily markets to visit while in Dushanbe. The population grew from 227,000 in 1959 to about 602,000 in 1990.
Leninabad has been renamed to Khujand. This is the scond largest Tajikistan city.It has about 163, 000 inhabitants in 1990.
